In 1963, a pastor of an American Baptist church delivered an autograph letter of the mayor of Pasadena to the mayor of Hadano City. With this as a momentum, an international affiliation between Hadano City and Pasadena City was made in 1964.

Pasadena City is located to the south of Houston. It used to flourish as the center of strawberry culture but now it has grown into an industrial city having a petrochemical complex. We are vigorously conducting exchange activities with Pasadena City such as mutual dispatch of goodwill missions.



    --- Paju City, Kyunggi Province, Republic of Korea ---

Starting in 1996 when the Paju City office sent staff to Hadano City to explore the possibility of establishing Friendship City ties, a ten year period of exchange between the Cities through private organizations has continued, in October 2005 a Friendship City Agreement was established. Coincidentally, 2005 is the year that marks the 40th anniversary of Normalization of Diplomatic Relations between Japan and Korea and is commemorated as "Japan - Korea Friendship Year", in addition it marks the 50th anniversary of Hadano City's Municipal establishment. Paju City is a city in the Northern most part of Korea located in the middle if the Korean Peninsula, the DMZ has numerous Joint Security Treaty facilities in famous Panmunjeom as well as historic sites of Ancient Korea and temples scattered in the area. Moreover, previously known for expansive forests and uncultivated fields it gave a strong impression as an agricultural city, however recently, large scale industrial park development projects are rapidly being undertaken. The themes for the Friendship Ties between the cities are Youth, Sports, Culture, Tourism, and Industrial exchanges are among a few of the areas which are expected to enhance the exchanges to share the best of each city with the other.
